ABOUT
November 2012, National Home Care Month, is a time when the home care community joins together to celebrate the practice of home care and all of the individuals who make it possible, especially our dedicated caregivers and the many patients whose courageous will and determined spirit of independence inspires us all.
Throughout the month of November, the Home Care Association of New York State (HCA) is engaging in a public outreach campaign to further raise awarewness about home care. Please check this site often for updates on HCA's efforts to engage lawmakers, the public, and the media about home care throughout November.

Saluting Home Care Heroes During Hurricane Sandy
HCA salutes the countless home care staff in New York City, Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley for their incredible dedication to patients during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Home care nurses, therapists and home health aides have done heroic work reaching vulnerable patients in need of services, supplies or assistance with evacuation. Their efforts in the lead-up and aftermath of Hurricane Sandy show what an important asset home care providers are during times of crisis just as they provide critical supports to elderly, disabled and chronically ill patients each and every day. These individuals truly live up to the theme of HCA's National Home Care Month campaign this year: Honoring Those Who Serve. To learn more about this heroism, please read and watch the news clips below, including a report by ABC News' Diane Sawyer who accompanied Nurse Rosita Ortiz on a home care visit, climbing 17 flights of stairs in a high-rise apartment building to see a patient who was without electricity in New York City in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Congratulations to HCA Member Visiting Nurse Service of New York on this important coverage from ABC News!
